Pancha Karma is a profound science of Ayurvedic cleansing and renewal, it is one of the crowning glories of Ayurvedic ancient wisdom. In contrast to many more radical systems of cleansing, it offers a complete, highly specialized way to cleanse the entire system of the body as well as offer profound rejuvenation, in a way that does not deplete or stress the tissues. Panchakarma is also unique in that it is designed towards each individual’s constitution and doshic imbalance.
Pancha Karma comes from the Sanskrit words panch, which means five, and karma, which means action. Pancha karma is literally the five primary actions or therapies used to purify the body. Each of these therapies addresses a specific imbalance of the three doshas, vata, pitta, and kapha, and the accumulation of toxins that results due to these imbalances. Pancha karma effectively removes toxins from the deep tissues so that they may be removed through the body’s channels of elimination.
There are three aspects of Panchakarma. First there are preliminary therapies, these are the procedures to follow before starting the main Panchakarma therapies. Next are the five main therapies of ayurvedic Panchakarma, which are done over the course of a 3, 5, or 7 day treatment plan. Finally there are the post-treatment procedures, or rasayana, the rejuvenation therapies to restore the tissues and digestive fire, so that the cleanse may be properly integrated.
The first step to undergo Pancha Karma is to schedule an Ayurvedic consulation. During this consultation, we will determine your constitution and current state of doshas, as well areas of imbalance. Then we will design a ayurvedic Pancha Karma program custom made for you!
